All Drunk Driving Charges Have Serious Consequences

Even a first DUI/DWI conviction can have harsh penalties. Depending on your record, you may face first-offense DWI penalties in North Carolina that include:

  • A minimum of 24 hours in jail, 24 hours of community service, a fine up to $200 or a combination of these penalties
  • Mandatory revocation of your driver's license for one year
  • Court costs and additional fees

If you are convicted of a subsequent DUI within seven years, the penalties include permanent revocation (four years) of your license, a minimum of seven days in jail, supervised probation and the possible installation of an ignition interlock device. A fourth DWI/DUI offense within seven years may result in a felony habitual impaired driving charge.
